Ellie just ever so kindly reminded me that I have been neglecting this blog. Let's just say I really have not felt like writing recently.

I'm sure you've all heard by now that the Core has come under fire for publishing a controversial and scathing article about Manny Santos. Apparently, as editor, I should have known better than to print it. <strike>And trust me. I did know better. I should have gone with my gut feeling and pushed El harder to re-write it. I had no choice but to run the article... fuck, Manny's got a solid management team behind her. They know what they're doing. I should have never signed that contract. Basically it stated that if the Core interviewed her, we had to run the article, or we'd be on the hook for paying Manny for her "time." Which runs at about $150,000... although I'm sure she barely sees 1% of it herself. Ha. So yeah, I was pretty much buggered. I only assigned the interview to Ellie because she always writes with a subtly sarcastic spin on things. I was hoping for something like that piece she wrote about her roommate. I totally did not bargain for her hatred towards Manny to cause her to be so... hostile.</strike>

Talks with the lawyers seem to be going well. In fact, they've agreed to drop the lawsuit if the Core publishes an apology recanting the article. The only thing is, the apology has to be written by Ellie. Which, as I'm sure you can imagine, is going to happen around the same time hell freezes over. <strike>I wish Ellie would think more objectively and clearly about this. I don't think she realises what's at stake here. If she doesn't follow through, she could lose her scholarship, be placed on academic probation, or worse, be expelled.</strike>

As for me, I was a bit worried the university might not confer my degree. Fortunately that's not going to be the case. They did relieve me of my duties as editor, though. You should have seen the gloating look of satisfaction on Nina's face when she was appointed acting editor. In light of recent events, I won't say what exactly my opinion of that <strike>bitch</strike> girl is, but for reasons that shall remain undisclosed, she is not exactly my biggest supporter. And she definitely does not like my girlfriend. Her first accomplishment as editor? Wiping Ellie's name off the assignment board. Talk about bitter.

That is pretty much it for me. If anyone wants to go for beers, I sure would like the company.

Have you picked up the latest issue of the Core yet? Maybe you should, because Ellie's article about Anna Nicole Smith is a journalistic masterpiece.

Between school and the paper, I haven't really had much time for anything else, including Ellie. With reading week coming up, I intend on making it up to her. Especially now that my jaw is fully healed, no thanks to that big loaf of an ex-boyfriend of hers. That kid has some nerve.

So fill me in on all the latest. Unless it's about Brit's new haircut. Yikes.

In point form, because I haven't really got this "blogging" thing down pat yet:

that she is covering the Anna Nicole Smith death story

that you have a stripper wall

that a picture of her sworn enemy is on the stripper wall

that you want to get her sworn enemy's autograph so you can show it off to all your buddies

In other news.... I am officially over high school parties. Suddenly weekend benders hosted by inconsiderate roommates seem far more tolerable than hanging out with underaged try-hards. Also, I'm beginning think this Alex chick everyone talks about doesn't exist. She is an enigma. I've never seen her, only ever heard about her. And boy am I ever hearing about her lately... Alex, whoever you are, you're in Frosh's doghouse.

This blog is my last hurrah before I finally get that piece of paper with my name on it that says I spent five grueling years at UoT. By the time the semester is done I will have completed an exposé on blogging and its negative effects on society. It'll make the front page of the Core. I'm the editor, I know these things.

Some of the many topics I will be covering include:

How blogging has set the English language back to a grammatical level equal to that of a chimpanzee

Why blogging is responsible for the dissolution of hand-written anything (including, but not limited to, diary entries, newspaper articles, rough drafts, letters, grocery lists, and the ilk)

The disgusting things people will admit to doing online, under the thinly veiled cloak of "It's my diary, I'll gross you out if I want to."

It's literary genius, my friend.

Okay, okay. I lied. I'm doing nothing of the sort. My girlfriend made me get one.
